FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q. What should I look for when seeking quality homecare services?

A. You should look for an agency with an excellent reputation, such as Founders Homecare, that employs compassionate, competent, loyal caregivers each of whom have been thoroughly screened and checked for criminal background information (we utilize the services of Infolink Screening Services, Inc., the choice of many law inforcement agencies regionally and nationally), Department of Motor Vehicles records, Social Security records for the right to work in the United States, and prior employment references.  As our employee, every caregiver is insured and bonded, and covered by our Workers Compensation Insurance policy.  Beware: many agencies do not have these protections in place.  It is in your best interest to select an agency which cares enough about its clients and employees to go to the expense of providing these extremely important coverages.  In that regard, when making a hiring decision, it is prudent to demand proof of coverage, which a reputable agency such as Founders Homecare will provide on request without requiring a commitment for an in-home assessment.

What else should I look for? Caregivers with professional, verifiable experience and skills. Founders Homecare is proud of the professional achievements of its caregivers, and would be pleased to share this information with you.   With all of this information in mind, we match caregivers to you and your family based on the skills needed and personality traits necessary for an excellent relationship.  You should also look for an agency that has earned an "A" rating with the Better Business Bureau, which Founders Homecare has always maintained.

Q. Where does Founders Homecare provide homecare services?

A. Founders Homecare is based in metropolitan Los Angeles, and is ready to assist you or your loved one from Santa Barbara in the north to San Diego in the south, and from Santa Monica/Beverly Hills on the west side of Los Angeles to Palm Springs in the east.  Furthermore, our caregivers can assist you or your loved one during transport or relocation all over the United States.  Also, homecare services provided by Founders Homecare, Inc. are often arranged from afar, by relatives located in New York, Chicago, St. Louis, and elsewhere who are seeking reputable caregiving services for relatives and friends of all ages, and we are able to provide competent, reliable care and oversight otherwise not available from a distance.

Q. How can I pay for homecare services provided by Founders Homecare?

A. Many Long Term Care policies cover some or all of our services. Upon request, we will review your insurance and eligibility without cost or obligation.  Also, we accept private pay, Workers Compensation, and private insurance.  We accept payment by check and major credit cards, as well as by scheduled payment through your bank or credit union.

Q. Does Medicare cover homecare services provided by Founders Homecare?

A. Founders Homecare provides services typically referred to as custodial care. Custodial care is not a covered benefit under Medicare.

Q. I am a Veteran, or a spouse of a Veteran. Can Founders Homecare provide me with in-home caregiving services?

A. YES! Founders Homecare is a proud participant in the Veterans Aid and Assistance Program.

Q. Who is the employer of my Founders Homecare caregiver?

A. Founders Homecare employs all of its caregivers, assuming all federal and state employer responsibilities, including Social Security and payroll taxes, state disability insurance and worker’s compensation. As your caregiver’s employer, we relieve you of all of these employee responsibilities and potential liabilities by insuring, bonding, and providing workers compensation insurance for all of our caregivers.

Q. Is my Founders Homecare caregiver supervised?

A. YES! We provide ongoing supervision of your caregiver while she is working in your home.

Q. What services does a Founders Homecare caregiver provide?

A. Our caregivers provide assistance with "activities of daily living" (also known as ADLs). ADLs are considered to be bathing, dressing, eating, ambulating or mobility, transferring, and toileting, as well as providing medication reminders.  In addition, Founders caregivers may provide assistance with incidental ADLs, which might include household services such as linen changes and laundry, bathroom cleaning, keeping the kitchen floor and counters clean, and cleaning up dishes after meal preparation.

Q. What shifts can my Founders Homecare caregiver work?

A. Founders Homecare provides from 4-hour shifts to 24 hour/7 day care.

Q. What is the difference between a live-in and 24-hour care?

A. A live-in is a caregiver who lives in a client's home on a 24 hour basis. A live-in provides the appropriate level of personal care and support services for a client who needs the security of another person in his/her home, but does not require shifts of care. Founders Homecare live-in caregivers provide safety and companionship. If a client needs a live-in caregiver 7 days a week, generally one person works for 5 days and another for 2 days. Founders Homecare always provides you with the opportunity to select your caregiver.
